Each area of coaching has it’s benefits and it’s challenges. For example here’s a benefit most coaches would love: Internal coaches don’t have to market in the traditional manner to get clients.
On the other hand, there are some challenges that external coaches don’t have in quite the same way as their internal coaching colleagues. For example: What are some of the ethical concerns that internal coaches have, especially around conflict of interests? How do coaching agreements need to be set up in organizations to assure confidentiality? How do you maintain confidentiality when you meet a client in the hallway or in meetings when you are also his/her coach? How are coaching reports/updates to supervisors handled? If assessments are used, how are the results communicated in a coaching manner? Who else gets the results?
