This workshop offers coaches the opportunity to:

  • Learn what visual thinking is and how it can be an important coaching tool in facilitating communication and understanding
  • Learn the basics of representing concepts visually using simple, easy to create imagery
  • Learn how visual thinking can add value and engagement to activities like mind mapping, goal setting and note taking.

Participants will receive 1 Core Competency and .5 Resource Development CCEUs

Speaker: Terry LaBan

In recent years there has been an explosion of interest among coaches and facilitators in visual thinking and note taking. Using visuals to capture discussions and explain concepts increases understanding and engagement and eases communication, especially for participants from different work backgrounds. Graphic recorder and cartoonist Terry LaBan will explain the basics of visual thinking, demonstrate how it works and show participants techniques they can use themselves—no drawing skills necessary!

Terry LaBan is a graphic recorder, cartoonist and educator. He worked in the comic book industry as an artist and writer and created the daily comic strip “Edge City,” which was syndicated by King Features Syndicate and appeared in newspapers nationwide. Terry 's company, Breakthrough Visuals, creates live graphic recordings, infographics, whiteboard videos cartoons and illustrations, for businesses and organizations. He also teaches classes in graphic narrative as an adjunct professor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
